Living on rural land at University Endowment doesn't feel as if you are anywhere close to a city at all. Yet UBC is only a 22-minute drive away (11.1 km) to downtown Vancouver and a mere 5- to 10-minute drive away from the nearby, trendy and upscale Vancouver neighbourhoods of Point Grey and Kitsilano, full of restaurants, shops, boutiques and cafés.
Surrounded by ocean and forest, the UBC region is a leader in sustainability and conservation. Outdoorsy residents enjoy immediate access to the adjacent Pacific Spirit Park's 763 hectares of forested walking, biking and hiking trails, which stretch across Point Grey. The peninsula's shoreline touches the Fraser River, the Strait of Georgia and Burrard Inlet, offering easy beach access and breathtaking ocean vistas.
Excellent Schools, Amenities, and Infrastructure
The UBC area is a hub of activities, programs and services designed to support education, family life and recreation. University Endowment neighbourhoods are child-friendly and promote healthy families through community activities, workshops, support programs and daycare services. With the region's low crime rate and a strong sense of community, UBC parents and retirees feel safe and at ease walking alone or with family and friends around the campus community.
Athletes and active residents also appreciate access to world-class fitness facilities, including the UBC Pool, The UBC Tennis Centre, Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre, The Student Recreation Centre and enclosed BirdCoop Fitness Centre and Thunderbird Park Track and Field facilities.
For families with school-age children, the area schools are highly-ranked. The new University Hill Secondary School, locally known as U-Hill, was recently relocated to the Wesbrook Village neighbourhood. University Hill Secondary ranked as the Number 1 Public Secondary School in the province since 1995. It is also the only public school in the BC to have received a 10.0 mark from the Fraser Institute, and it has regularly tied for first in the past few years with BC's top private schools in the Fraser Institute's Report Card.
The new $29-million Norma Rose Point School is a combined K-8 Elementary and Middle School. It is situated on the former University Hill Secondary site, southeast of campus, nearest to the Hampton Place and East Campus neighbourhoods. It offers a variety of a wide range of 21st-century learning tools, including a digital media lab, wireless internet access and classrooms are designed to support the use of integrated technologies.
